Collaboration with Greenpeace HK

Recently I got a collaboration with Greenpeace, they are having a campaign against micro-beads product and overuse of plastic bag. The micro-beads product and plastic bag collected will be transformed into artpiece shown on the date of the event.

最近與綠色和平合作， 他們在籌辦有關反對微塑膠產品及濫用膠袋的活動。  收集微塑膠產品及膠袋， 並轉化為藝術品， 在活動當日給大眾宜揚訊息。

The main problem of the micro-beads is that they are actually plastic, and too small to be filtered so that will be directly flushed into the ocean. Animals like fish and turtle could not define them and easily intake into the body. When the micro-beads enter their digestive system, they will block the system or, it will be digested into toxic substance. The effect is not only about animals but also the food chain and a becoming global issue.

微塑膠的主要問題，是它們細小得不能過濾， 直接排出大海後， 海洋生物如魚類海龜不能分辯而錯誤進食，微塑膠會阻塞牠們的消化系統， 或被消化後是有毒物質 。影響的不單是動物的生命， 而是整個食物鏈， 也成為了全球要面對的問題。

So what products contain the micro-beads? They usually written in the ingredients part, you might find it in toothpaste or facial scrub products. They are：Polyethylene, Polypropylene, Polyethylene Terephthalate, Polymethyl Methacrylate and Nylon- “with numbers”. Either one of them inside the product, is containing micro-beads.

有什麼產品含有微塑膠呢？通常是牙膏或磨砂潔面產品，可在成份一欄查到， 分別為：Polyethylene, Polypropylene, Polyethylene Terephthalate, Polymethyl Methacrylate and Nylon- “後加數字“； 產品有任何一種，已是含有微塑膠。

Unpack show 2016 by Hyphen

After the “thank you london” by the Hyphen Project 2016, I am exhibiting another work in Hong Kong. This is the 4th unpack show by The Hyphen, it’s my pleasure to join and getting know to the fresh graduate from London as well.

This year the unpack show exhibiting ten designers and artists, with various professionals like interior design, architecture, fashion, set design…etc…and including my work, which is an installation. I am showing the work “Melt Away” which was came from my lipstick collecting campaign; I collecting wasted lipsticks and spreading the message of palm oil over used, causing the deforestation problem. This is a side project from my graduation project. I am happy to display and showing  my friends, donors the work, at the same time, keep delivering the message in Hong Kong.

As I also wanna see the response from Hong Kong, where the culture and mindset is totally different from Europe. It seems the result is positive and audiences like my concept as well. And I am sure I will continue the similar topic.

PechaKucha Night in Rotterdam 8 Oct

After the Scotland trip, I arrived Netherlands for another journey. I love Amsterdam so much, there are canals all around city, clean and healthy is the feeling once I arrived. Of course visiting Van Gogh Museum is a must~ here I got another blog that is about window display, https://vindowconcepts.wordpress.com/2015/09/30/grouping-skill-in-vm/ yea, one of the article was inspired by the van gogh museum gift shops.

Then I went to another city called Rotterdam…..I really really like this city since not only how clean it is, healthy feeling but also the iconic building everywhere. I asked local people and they said since this area was destroyed in the 2nd world war, buildings are nearly all new. I stayed in the Cube House Hostel  a few days. Library is besides that and here is where I met Makystudio, It is run by 2 HongKongese that living in Rotterdam. They were “building” a giant robot for something like children reading week. and I found their other works are so energetic, colourful and fun. here’s their link: http://studiomaky.com/

is good to meet them and share the art culture. they also invited me to the 34th Pechakucha night. Pechakucha is a presentation that limited in 20 slides with 20 sec each. presenter have to well control the time and context in each slide.

On the other hand, I got much input from the presentation night. some are artist. some are disigners and some are photographer. here the list for my ref.

and the most impressive one for me is a man who quit a job….and start to do something benefit the society. He turns coffee trash into an industry. Since there are so many coffee trash everyday….and his concept is to find out what can be done by them……he collect the trash and do experiment….or testing or ….I dont know his real process since the pechakucha limitation….haha…..anyway….the finding thing is he found out the trash can grow some mushroom so that human can eat…saving environment….saving money…..upcycling….here’s a link for his work: http://www.wdka.nl/2015/03/03/march-5-2015-lecture-mark-slegers-rotterzwam-the-circular-city/?lang=en

after I saw his presentation….already a business now….I feel my endangered animals project could have inspired by him…although not yet have any idea….but at least I could see how people upcycling …..that benefit society, other people and himself.

impact from Hyphen moving gallery

Yesterday 11am-3:30pm I am showing the tiger lipbalm in the Exhibition Road, is collaboration with Hyphen Project, bring out the message of “thank you London” at the same time. As a art student, I thank London for the Museum and Gallery all around, the respectful to artist so that I could got impact and inspiration to my works.

So, after the day, keep talking to the passerby, answering the questions about my works. I gained a lot, here I am dropping some notes about what is good for the on going project.

1) there should be a name for the tiger, a gender as well? so…yea the coming 4 sculpture….I’d better give them names.

2) I met someone worked in the Synchronicity Earth, which also for environmental protection, will invite them for the final show.

3) a student also working on similar project, about palm oil issue, I share my blog to her and feel that the UK education is good to let student know such topic.

4) met some people like my concept and the topic I am working on, that’s encouraging me much.

Hyphen Project London

My work was selected by Hyphen Project to show through “Moving Gallery”. We will show my recent sculpture and talk to all passerby, to share my work, my concept, and most important, the message of endangered animals’ problem. There will be souvenirs for audiences.

Collecting used or unwanted lipstick for sculpture/ 收集二手或不用的唇膏製作雕塑之用

As I am posting request for second hand, unwanted lipstick, for upcycling sculpture project. Here I try to illustrate my concept. The main purpose is to raise awareness of endangered animals. There is a deforestation problem due to the large amount use of palm oil, for manufacturing daily product such as lipstick, shampoo, chocolate, etc. Thus, the animals are lack of living habitat and prey for food.

由於我在多個社交群組徵求已用或不用的唇膏，作為升級再造雕塑之用。在此我描述一下概念。主要是借我的雕塑增加大家對瀕臨絕種動物的關注；由於大量使用棕櫚油生產日常用品如唇膏，洗頭水及朱古力等，以致森林過份被開伐. 因此動物漸漸失去生態居住及獵物。

受影響的瀕臨絕種動物包括:蘇門答臘虎/大象／犀牛／猩猩

I try to cast my sculpture by mixing my own lip balm/ lipstick without palm oil. On the other hand, I am thinking to cast with second hand, or unwanted lipstick; the project itself involves upcycling and, at the same time through the collecting process, to let my friends know such problem. Thus, no matter the lipstick they donated are made with or without palm oil, they started to know it more, and I am working on a upcycling project as well.

我嘗試以其他物料製作不包含棕櫚油的唇膏雕塑。另一方面在構思以已用或不用的唇膏製作雕塑；製作概念在升級再造的同時，收集過程中讓我的朋友們開始認識這個課題。所以不論他們將捐出的唇膏有否棕櫚油，他們在這也認知更多，而我亦將廢物升級再造。

Sumatran Tiger Facts

here I captured the fact for my reference. there are less than 400 sumatran tiger in the world. I am thinking for the Hyphen event that showing my work. to make 399 lipstick that giving to the audience as souvenir; setting up a donation box for The Rainforest Foundation UK; leaflet? postcard?

Sculpture process : Essential oil choice/ Hyphen project

As the tiger mold is in the process, I am ordering the materials for the sculpture. Main issue is what essential oil to use?of course no palm oil; and as the recipe of many different bloggers suggested shea butter or cocoa oil, I tried to find the differences, advantages and most important, the harmful to nature between them. Seems shea butter gives better performance for skin care, “unfortunately it can take up to thirty years for a crop to yield the right quality of this fatty acid”. For this reason I am choosing cocoa oil.

Hyphen Project

An Art community from, supporting all Hong Kong artist that studying UAL, I am joining their moving gallery project this year. their aim is to bring art piece to public, not only place them in a gallery and wait for audience. I think it’s a right time for my survivors project, letting audience know it, comment on it, criticize it.

I am now thinking if I should some lip stick or lip balm for the random audiences as souvenirs. Or, just order some containers to perform the interactive idea?!?!??

one more issue is to provide some postcard? or leaflet? aim is to introduce my work in a easy and friendly way.

Meeting with Odylique

Just some notes and recap after meeting with the highest ranking company from the Rainforest Foundation UK, Odylique. The Skin Care Company without any palm oil, animal test; All organic ingredients. They got many awards beginning from 2003.

For the artpiece I thought, they are willing to provide some moisture lipstick (To be confirm with the amount). If there’s about 40-50 pcs, I could still do that interactive artpiece. They also provide some vouchers, product package…I will keep thinking how to make use of them. The three color tone…Pink Salmon, Sky blue and Green are nice inspiration for me. Besides he Uni project, I do really interested in any chance for collaboration.
