Gallery for Endangered animals?!

Introduced by the candidates of artcube competition, there was a competition about endangered animals, called Ark. applicants have to hand in a pair of animals art. Well, that’s why I haven’t join finally, mine are always alone at this moment.

but seems the gallery is showing show works about that~ I have to go!

Interim Show

Interim show, to show the unit 1 process, getting feed back, receiving comment…..I was showing the Noah’s Ark chair…..although some people admire the concept and the chair itself…..but actually is not a success one.  Firstly, if I a not standing besides, and talking to the audience, they don’t know the concept. Moreover, I haven’t got deep research into the boat…well the chair shape is just all images in my mind….and come up. Finally, is too much within the art piece. (Roger also think adding too much, same as a dish with many favor…spicy, sweet, sour…..!!!) For this work….Upcycling, Noah’s ark story, animals conservation, chair function, is too much~ Anyway, is a good learning process for both making object and conceptual thinking.

for the bottom part, I am using some pine wood from the student left behind in studio. method of laminating could not blend them, only way is steaming. “wait, steaming means high temperature and moisturizing…..could I insert them into the hot water?” answer is “yes, it works”. but there’s also problem when screwing it…..I realized that why the boat need nails more than screw.

For the leg, also difficult part  without a good planning……I was thinking if I should use the legs I picked up but the shape is not really match. Thus, I am using the laser cut, with ref of a boat online.

read a book from Chelsea Library, get some reference from wood laminating

by using a jake to fix the laminating wood, 3 layers is really not enough for a safety chair. and there are spacing in between the plywood again……-_- the method is easy? not at all….have to mount it well is not that easy: glue dry out quickly; solid jake is always better; outer layers always bigger (need an accurate measurement).

Chair Dummy

Try to make a 1:5 scale dummy for that Noah’s Ark Chair. Although idea still developing, I do want to make some dummy out for inspiration. 

and also a Rhino head chill out arm chair~ 1:5scale, I like the shape very much!
